What Makes a Graduation Medal Worth Keeping for a Lifetime
Graduation medals are not event swag — they are family heirlooms. These four factors determine whether a medal stays in a keepsake box for decades or gets lost before the after-party.
Classic & Modern Design Styles — Your Choice
Two distinct design directions, both achievable in zinc alloy die-casting. Traditional: school crest in sculptural relief, laurel wreaths framing the border, academic icons (mortarboard, diploma scroll, torch, open book), serif typography with the gravitas of a diploma. Modern: minimalist typography as the primary design element, geometric patterns, your school mascot rendered as a silhouette, campus landmark outlines (clock tower, library, arch). Our designers present both directions in the first 24-hour delivery so you can compare — traditional gravitas versus contemporary sophistication — and choose the approach that best represents your institution.
School Colors Exact Match — Non-Negotiable
Your school colors are your brand identity. Navy blue, not royal. Crimson, not bright red. Vegas gold, not yellow. We stock base enamel colors and mix fresh per batch to your exact Pantone specification. The enamel, the ribbon, and the plating finish are all coordinated to the same reference. Classic combinations: gold plating + navy enamel + white ribbon. Silver + crimson + grey ribbon. Copper + forest green + cream ribbon. Color formulations and molds are archived in your account. When you reorder for next year's graduating class, the medals will match this year's exactly. The students change — the quality and colors do not.
Student Name & Year Engraving — Each Medal Personal
Class of 2026 cast or engraved on the front. Student name and graduation date laser-engraved on the back. Laser engraving is permanent — it etches into the metal surface creating high-contrast markings that will never fade or rub off. Variable data runs from your student roster file (Excel or CSV format). Each medal is individually marked with the correct name — we run verification checks against your roster to ensure accuracy. Allow approximately one extra production day per 500 personalized medals for the engraving step. For schools that prefer front-only personalization (year on front, no back engraving), production moves faster. The name on the back is what transforms a generic graduation medal into a personal keepsake.
Presentation-Ready Packaging — Stage Ceremony Excellence
Graduation medals are often presented on stage — the presentation moment matters. Individual velvet pouches in your school color: the student walks across the stage, receives the medal in a pouch, and the moment is complete. Clear acrylic display cases: the medal is visible while protected, ideal for framing the medal as a desk or shelf display piece. Gift boxes with school branding: premium unboxing experience for doctoral or honors graduates. Standard poly bag is included with every order — functional, not ceremonial. Upgraded packaging is quoted separately and adds 1-3 days to production depending on quantity. The right packaging elevates the entire ceremony experience for students, families, and the school's reputation.
Customization Options — Make Each Graduate's Medal Special
Custom School Crest Shape
Your school crest or logo cast as the medal silhouette — not a circle with a logo printed on it, but the crest shape itself. Zinc alloy die-casting captures heraldic detail in sculptural 3D relief. Complex crests with fine elements may need simplification — our designers flag this during review.
Different Medals Per Honors Tier (Gold/Silver/Bronze Plating)
One mold, three plating finishes: gold for Highest Honors (Summa Cum Laude), nickel silver for High Honors (Magna Cum Laude), copper for Honors (Cum Laude). Different ribbon colors per tier optional. Most cost-effective differentiation — each tier shares the same mold and design.
Two-Tone Plating
Gold body with nickel silver highlights on the school crest. Or antique gold with polished gold text. Masking during plating applies two finishes to one medal. The contrast makes both finishes stand out more than monochrome.
Student Name Engraving
Laser engraving from your student roster (Excel/CSV). Each medal individually marked with student name and graduation date on the back. Permanent, high-contrast. Verification run against your roster ensures accuracy. ~1 extra day per 500 personalized medals.
Upgraded Velvet/Gift Box Packaging
Stage-presentation-ready: velvet pouches in school colors, clear acrylic display cases, or rigid gift boxes with school branding. Elevates the ceremony moment. Standard poly bag included. Upgraded packaging quoted separately — adds 1-3 days to production.
Spinning Element (Graduation Cap Spinner!)
A rotating mortarboard cap in the medal center — it actually spins. The spinner mechanism uses a precision rivet post. Adds cost (second mold piece + assembly labor) but creates an interactive keepsake that graduates love. Popular for senior class gifts.
Factory-Direct — What That Means for Your School
Annual Reorder Consistency — Archived & Guaranteed
Your mold is archived. Your Pantone color specs for enamel and ribbon are archived. Your student name engraving programming template is archived. When you reorder next year — same school, updated year, new student roster — we retrieve everything. Same navy blue. Same crest relief. Same ribbon texture. The only things that change are the year on the front and the names on the back. Schools that have ordered from us for 5+ consecutive years confirm: batch-to-batch consistency is why they never request quotes from other suppliers.
School Budget Friendly — Factory-Direct, No Middleman
Every graduation medal goes from our Huizhou factory directly to your school — no trophy shop, no promotional products distributor, no middleman marking it up 3x. Your per-unit price reflects actual manufacturing cost plus reasonable margin. This is how schools with 200-500 graduating seniors save 40-60% versus ordering from domestic award suppliers. The savings can fund the upgraded packaging, the spinner element, or simply stay in the school budget for other needs.
One Factory, One Responsibility
Mold making, die-casting, polishing, plating, enamel filling, laser engraving, ribbon production, assembly, QC, packaging — all 12 steps happen under our roof. When every process is in-house, quality problems have one throat to choke. No 'the engraving shop says the plating shop made the medals too thick.' Just one team accountable for your entire order. This matters especially for graduation season when timing is tight and there is no room for supplier finger-pointing.
Graduation Medal FAQ — Answers From the Factory Floor
We order graduation medals every year. Will next year's medals match this year's?
Yes — this is standard practice for our annual school clients. Your mold is archived in our storage facility. Your Pantone color specifications for enamel and ribbon are archived in your account. Your student name engraving programming template is saved. When you reorder, we retrieve everything. The year on the front and the names on the back are updated — everything else matches exactly. Schools that have ordered from us for 5+ consecutive years confirm this batch-to-batch consistency is why they stay with us. Year-to-year design updates (new year text, minor design refresh) use mold modification at lower cost than a new mold.
Can we have different medals for different honors levels (Honors, High Honors, Highest Honors)?
Yes — the most cost-effective approach: one mold with three different plating finishes. Gold plating for Highest Honors (Summa Cum Laude). Nickel silver plating for High Honors (Magna Cum Laude). Copper or antique bronze plating for Honors (Cum Laude). Optional: different ribbon colors per honors tier for additional visual differentiation. Each tier must meet the 100-piece MOQ individually unless they share the same design and only differ in plating. This approach gives clear visual distinction at minimal additional cost since the mold is shared.
What medal size is appropriate for different age groups?
Elementary school (K-5): 1.5-2 inches (38-50mm) — lighter weight for young children, safety breakaway clasp recommended. Middle school (6-8): 2-2.5 inches (50-63mm) — transitional size. High school: 2-2.5 inches standard, 3 inches for senior class officers or valedictorian. University/College: 2.5-3 inches — substantial presence for the ceremony stage. Doctoral/PhD: 3 inches (76mm) with 4-6mm thickness — premium heft for the highest academic achievement. These are guidelines — we will recommend based on your specific ceremony format and student age.
How early should we order graduation medals? Peak season is March through May.
Order 8-10 weeks before your graduation ceremony date. Peak season is March through May — our production calendar fills quickly. Early ordering secures your production slot, avoids rush fees, and gives you time to review physical samples before committing to bulk production. Timeline: 24h for free design, 7-10 days for physical sample, 7-15 days for bulk production, plus shipping. Last-minute orders: tell us your ceremony date and we will give you an honest feasibility assessment. Rush production is available at additional cost if our calendar permits.
Can you laser-engrave each student's name from our roster?
Yes — send your student roster in Excel or CSV format (columns: first name, last name, graduation date). We program the laser engraving machine with your data. Each medal is individually engraved on the back with the student's name and date. We run verification checks against your roster to ensure accuracy. Allow approximately one extra production day per 500 personalized medals. One-time data programming setup fee applies. For annual reorders with updated rosters, the programming template is reused — lower cost for returning schools.
Can you match our school colors exactly?
Yes — this is standard, not an upgrade. Send your school's Pantone color codes (or provide a physical color swatch). Enamel is mixed fresh per batch to match. Ribbon is dyed to the same Pantone reference. Plating finish is selected to complement the overall color scheme. All color specifications are archived in your account. When you reorder next year, the colors will match exactly. For schools with strict brand guidelines, we offer physical swatch samples for pre-production approval.
Our graduating class has fewer than 100 students — can you still make medals for us?
Our standard MOQ is 100 pieces. For smaller graduating classes of 50-99 students, contact us — we can often accommodate slightly below MOQ on a case-by-case basis. The per-unit price will be higher at lower quantities due to fixed costs (mold making, machine setup) being spread across fewer pieces. For very small classes under 50, we recommend upgrading to brass material and premium packaging — maximize the impact of each individual medal with a higher per-unit budget on a smaller quantity.
Do you offer presentation packaging suitable for a stage ceremony?
Yes — several options designed specifically for stage presentation. Velvet pouches: individual drawstring pouches in your school color, the student receives the medal already in the pouch — clean, elegant, easy to hand across the stage. Clear acrylic display cases: the medal is visible through the case, ideal for students who will display the medal at home. Rigid gift boxes: premium unboxing experience with school branding, popular for doctoral and honors graduates. Standard poly bag is included. Upgraded packaging quoted separately — adds 1-3 days to production depending on quantity and style.
