How Custom Medal Orders Work — From Idea to Delivery

Five steps. We handle the complexity. You approve the milestones.

1

Send Your Idea

You don't need finished artwork. Send us your logo, a sketch on a napkin, a photo of a medal you like, or just describe your event and preferred colors. Our design team works in Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW — production-grade tools, not Canva. We'll ask clarifying questions about size, attachment style, and ribbon preferences, then get to work.

2

Free Design in 24h

You'll receive a professional medal design with 3D renderings showing your medal from front, back, and side angles. This isn't a rough mockup — it's a production-ready design file showing exact dimensions, Pantone color codes, plating finish specifications, and attachment hardware. Revise as many times as you want. No charge.

3

Sample in 7–10 Days

Once you approve the design, we cut the steel mold and produce a physical sample. This is the actual medal — same zinc alloy, same plating, same enamel, same ribbon. Hold it. Feel the weight. Check the colors under real light. This is your last checkpoint before bulk production. Most clients approve on the first sample because the 3D renderings are accurate.

4

Bulk Production in 7–15 Days

Your approved sample becomes the master reference. Bulk production runs on our 88-ton die-casting presses. 30,000+ pieces daily capacity means your 5,000-piece order runs alongside others without delays. In-process QC checks happen after die-casting, after plating, and after enamel filling — not just at the end.

5

Final QC & Worldwide Shipping

Every medal in your order passes individual inspection. We check for plating uniformity, enamel fill consistency, edge smoothness, ribbon attachment security, and engraving accuracy. Then we package to your spec — individual poly bags, velvet pouches, display boxes, or bulk pallets. Customs documentation included. Tracking number provided.

Common Questions About Custom Medals

What material should I choose for my medals?

Zinc alloy is our recommendation for 90% of projects. It melts at 385°C (low enough for energy-efficient production, high enough for durability), flows into intricate mold cavities for sharp 3D details, and accepts every plating and enamel type we offer. Brass (20–40% more expensive, heavier) is preferred for military challenge coins and high-end corporate awards. Iron is the budget option — fine for simple 2D designs in large quantities. See our full materials comparison for density, cost, and use-case guidance.

How many colors can my medal have?

1–3 enamel colors is standard and most cost-effective. 4–6 colors adds a small per-color surcharge. 7+ colors is priced per color. Every color is Pantone-matched — we stock 10 base enamel colors and mix to your specs. Black counts as one color. Metallic gold and silver come from the plating, not the enamel — so a gold-plated medal with red and black enamel is a 2-color job, not 3. Glitter, glow-in-the-dark, and translucent effects each count as one color but require an additional process step (applied during the semi-cure stage at 60–70°C).

What size should my medal be?

Standard race medals: 1.5–2.5 inches (38–64mm) — the most common range, works for most events. Large medals: 3–4 inches (76–102mm) — makes an impression, costs 20–50% more due to material and mold size. Giant medals: 5+ inches (127mm+) — custom quote required, often used for overall winner or special recognition pieces. Thickness matters too: standard is 2.5–4mm for zinc alloy. Thicker medals (4–6mm) feel more substantial and cost more. The minimum zinc alloy wall thickness is 2mm — thinner than that and the medal risks cracking during die-casting.

Can I get different designs in the same order?

Yes — each design requires its own mold, so each design counts toward the MOQ separately. Example: you want 300 medals total, split across three age-group designs (100 each). That works because each design meets the 100-piece MOQ. If you need 50 each of six designs (300 total), ask us — we may be able to work with you on smaller quantities if the designs share mold characteristics.

What's included in the price?

Every quote includes: mold making, zinc alloy material, your choice of plating finish, enamel filling in your specified colors, standard ribbon (860–900mm × 20–30mm, your choice of color), individual poly bag packaging, and the free design service with unlimited revisions. Not included (quoted separately if needed): custom packaging (velvet boxes, acrylic cases), specialty ribbons (woven, sublimated), rush production fees, and shipping. We provide a line-item quote so you know exactly what you're paying for.
