Trophy materials compared — which one fits your award

All five materials below are produced in the same factory, so we can quote them side by side against one artwork. If you are still weighing metals against each other, start with our materials comparison guide — and remember that a championship trophy is usually paired with custom medals for the rest of the field.

MaterialCharacter & feelBest forPersonalization
Zinc alloy (die-cast)The heaviest and most durable option. Cast in true 3D relief, then finished in mirror, satin, antique or two-tone plating for a permanent, weighty feel.Perpetual cups, championship centrepieces, annual league awardsCast 3D logo, engraved name plate
Resin (cast and hand-painted)Lightweight, and able to hold sculpted figure detail that metal casting cannot reach, with hand-applied colour on every piece.Sports figure trophies, themed and mascot statues, youth leaguesPainted detail, engraved name plate
Crystal and optical glassClear, high-clarity and unexpectedly heavy in the hand. The most formal of the five and the corporate default.Corporate recognition, executive awards, milestone giftsDeep laser etch, colour print
AcrylicClear or tinted, light, laser-cut to any silhouette, and far more forgiving in transit than glass.Modern corporate awards, large events, mail-out programmesUV print on flat or gently curved faces, laser etch
Wood and composite basesWarm and traditional, dimensionally stable, and the natural home for a row of name plates.Perpetual trophies, shields, school and club honours boardsEngraved name plates added year after year

Engraving and printing options for trophies

The right method depends on the material and on whether every piece carries the same text. Variable content — individual names, dates or serial numbers — narrows the choice faster than anything else.

Common defects in cast metal trophies — and how we prevent them

Die-cast and plated metal has a known set of failure modes. We list them openly because a buyer who knows what to look for is a buyer who can hold us to it — and because every one of them is preventable at the tooling or finishing stage. More detail in our quality inspection guide.

Custom trophies — frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for custom trophies?

Our MOQ is 50 pieces per design. For leagues needing only a few championship trophies, ask us — we often have existing molds that can be adapted.

Can you reproduce our league or company logo in 3D?

Yes. Send your logo in vector format (.AI, .EPS, .PDF) and we sculpt it into a 3D resin or die-cast figure, or laser-etch it onto crystal and acrylic. You approve the 3D render before production.

What trophy style suits a corporate award?

Crystal and acrylic awards are the modern corporate standard — clean, heavy, and engraving-friendly. For sports leagues, resin figures with metal plating give the classic cup look.

How fast can you deliver?

Standard is 3-4 weeks total: design in 24h, sample in 7-10 days, production in 7-15 days, plus shipping. With an existing mold, production can start in as little as 7 days.

Do you provide trophy bases and engraving plates?

Yes — wooden and metal bases, plus engraved name plates for perpetual trophies that are updated each season.

Should we order trophies, medals or plaques?

Use a trophy when one name or team takes the headline moment — a champion centrepiece, an MVP, a retirement gift. Use medals when every participant should receive something. Use a plaque or shield when the record has to live on a wall and be updated year after year. Many programmes run all three from a single artwork set; our medals vs trophies vs plaques guide breaks the decision down by budget, audience and event type.

Do you keep our mould so we can reorder next season?

Yes. Once tooling is built for your design it is retained and indexed against your order record, so a repeat season skips the sculpting and sampling step entirely and starts straight into production. This is why annual leagues and corporate recognition programmes usually invest in a custom mould in year one and then reorder at a lower effective cost in every following year.

How does engraving differ between crystal and metal trophies?

Crystal and glass are engraved with deep laser etching or colour printing — the mark sits inside or on the surface of the clear body and reads as light-on-shadow. Metal trophies take a different route: the logo is cast as 3D relief in zinc alloy and then plated, while names and dates go onto a separate engraved plate. Both are permanent, but metal gives you a raised, plated logo while crystal gives you a flat, luminous one. See our engraving methods guide for the full comparison.

What are the payment terms, and how is my order packed and shipped?

New customers pay T/T 30% deposit with the 70% balance before shipment; long-standing partners can move to Net 30 or Net 60 terms. Your pre-production sample is confirmed by photo and video — this is how the large majority of orders are approved — and a physical sample can be couriered to you with the freight at your cost. Finished trophies are individually protected, then cartoned for export; if anything arrives damaged, send us photos of the carton and the piece and we resolve it on the replacement.
