How Bulk Pricing Works — Four Factors

Medal pricing isn't a mystery. Four factors determine your per-unit cost. Understanding them helps you make trade-offs that keep your budget on track without sacrificing the medal quality your participants expect.

1. Material

  • Zinc alloy: Best value. 90% of our orders use it. Die-casting enables 3D relief and openwork that stamping can't match.
  • Brass: 20–40% more than zinc alloy. Premium weight (8.9 g/cm³). Preferred for military challenge coins and executive awards.
  • Iron: Most economical. Good for simple 2D shapes in very large quantities. Not recommended for detailed 3D designs.
  • Aluminum: Lightweight (2.7 g/cm³). Best for anodized color finishes and modern minimalist designs. Mid-range cost.

2. Size & 3D Complexity

  • Standard (1.5–2.5"): Baseline pricing. Most common range for race and sports medals.
  • Large (3–4"): +20–50% per unit. More material, larger mold, longer cycle time.
  • Giant (5"+): Custom quote. Used for overall winner or special recognition pieces.
  • 3D relief / openwork: Small premium for complexity. Worth it — this is what makes zinc alloy medals stand out.
  • Simple 2D: Most affordable. Flat surface, logo + text, minimal mold complexity.

3. Color & Finish

  • 1–3 enamel colors: Standard pricing. Gold plate + red + black = 2 enamel colors.
  • 4–6 colors: Small per-color surcharge. Each additional color = one more fill-and-bake cycle.
  • 7+ colors: Priced per color. Complex designs with many color zones require more labor.
  • Hard enamel: +15–25% vs soft. Requires post-fill polishing — an extra process step.
  • Glitter / glow / translucent: Each counts as one color + one process step surcharge.

4. Quantity Tier

  • 100–300 pcs: Entry pricing. Mold cost spread across fewer units.
  • 300–1,000 pcs: Volume discount begins. Mold cost amortization improves significantly.
  • 1,000–5,000 pcs: Significant per-unit savings. Bulk material pricing kicks in.
  • 5,000–10,000 pcs: Best per-unit rate for most projects. Production efficiency at scale.
  • 10,000+ pcs: Enterprise pricing. Dedicated production line allocation.
